Leadership and Risk Management Weekend
How do you size up the risks and make good choices before you get on the water, on your own or with a group? Are your boat-handling and rescue skills up to the task so that if and when incidents happen, you can handle them safely and efficiently?
We’re offering a weekend course on this topic at the Ontario Sea Kayak Centre. We’ll work on risk assessment, sub-60-second rescues, paddling skills, towing and group management. The weekend will culminate in a journey putting it all together. This weekend workshop will include challenges along with games and activities, all designed to improve decision-making and incident management, strategic thinking and enjoyment of time on the water.
We will:
– examine risk-assessment models and create one that applies to us this weekend
– practice ways to improve self- and assisted rescues, including the cowboy, re-enter and roll, “hand of God,” scoop and multiple variations on the T-rescue
– explore strategies for preventing and responding to incidents that arise
– learn new ways to work on basic boat-handling techniques
– play with various ways to enter and exit a boat
– have fun!
